Elliot: A Soldier's Fugue

Elliot Ortiz is a young soldier, like his Pop was before him, like his Abuelo before that and the three held together by their mother, a former nurse in Vietnam. But despite the things the men share—their love of music, their love for each other, and their experiences of war—even when they desperately need to communicate, they just can’t seem to make it work.

This powerful portrait of a Puerto Rican military family by Pulitzer Prize winner and Tony Award® nominee Quiara Alegría Hudes (In the Heights) is a breathtaking symphony of music, memories, and the things that mark our bodies…and our souls.

Performed as part of the Spring 2022 reading series and featuring the same director, Julio Agustin

Content advisory: This production contains mention of violence in war, abstract representations of violent trauma, brief sexual content, strong language, and drug use, as well as poetry, family, and love.
